A case of Laryngeal Leiomyoma

Abstract

|
Leiomyoma is a benign smooth muscle tumor. It is common in uterus and gastrointestinal tract but rare in head and neck areas because of the paucity of smooth muscle cells in head and neck. This neoplasm is extremely rare in the larynx as only
sixteen
cases have been described in the literature so far.
The patient had complained of progressive hoarseness past five months and revealed as a round, smooth surfaced, hard and broad pedicular mass on the left true vocal cord. It is best treated by laryngoscopic local excision.
Recently, we experienced a case of leiomyoma of left true vocal cord, so we report with a review of literatures. (Korean J Otolaryngol 38:2, 1995)
